According to the new conditions ( https://www.ekahau.com/legal/ekahau-end-user-license-agreement) on the Ekahau site which was revised on April 9th, 2019, there could be some challenges to come with the way users license their Ekahau Survey installations.
2. Grant of License. Subject to payment of the applicable fees on Your Order Form and continuing compliance with this Agreement, including but not limited to the Limitations of Use set forth in Section 15 below, Ekahau grants You a limited, non-exclusive and non-transferable license during the License Term for one (1) Authorized User to install on Compatible Hardware and Use object code versions of the Ekahau Site Survey or Ekahau Pro Software, as applicable, and the Documentation within the Territory solely for Your internal operations, in connection with Your regular business operations as a Systems Integrator and in accordance with the Documentation (“License”).

For many years we’ve all been using these types of tools in a similar manner. People purchase a license of the Survey software apply the license to a USB wireless dongle and share the dongle amongst other engineers or surveyors.
Unfortunately this practice is going to have to change as just recently we’ve had a few clients being caught out with Ekahau’s new Terms and Conditions. In some cases we have heard of users being suspended as the MAC address registry kept by Ekahau during the licensing setup has exceeded quite a few addresses.
From our discussions with Ekahau the key here is the ‘one (1) Authorized User’ being installed on ‘compatible hardware’. In effect the old practice of attaching to a USB wireless dongle and sharing is now violating this agreement.
From PlexNet’s perspective, and keeping in line with Ekahau’s licensing rules, a Survey license must therefore be permanently attached to a PC / Mac.
